More than anything, this post is to showcase some images of a typical Dampp-Chaser Piano Life Saver System installation on an upright piano. The images are of an installation I recently performed.
Here in Boise, Idaho, these systems really are life savers for pianos. We have four seasons and can even experience major relative humidity fluctuations from day to day. Those fluctuations wreak havoc on wood furniture and pianos over the years as they cause the wood to expand and contract. This can lead to cracked soundboards, separated pin blocks, separated glue joints, sticking keys, and host of other problems. Strings are susceptible to rust and can sound quite displeasing faster than they would have if there had been a humidity control system installed in the piano. Having a humidity control system installed also maintains stable tunings longer. Dampp-Chaser has a much more detailed explanation of the benefits of having a system installed in your piano as well as an explanation of the possible outcomes of not installing a system. Please take a look at their site by clicking here.
